Simpliquity

Simpliquity is a swiss company developing software for collaborative work and learning. It was founded in 2010 by three researchers from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne: Guillaume Zufferey (PhD), Patrick Jermann (PhD) and Prof. Pierre Dillenbourg.

We create tangible applications: a mix of traditional tools (small-scale models, paper) and technology (augmented reality, simulations), made for groups working and learning activities. You get the best of both worlds: the simplicity and concreteness of physical objects with the flexibility and richness of software.

Our mission: create intuitive tools that help learners understand, enhance creativity and help you take the right decisions.

Description

Camera

Detects tangible objects and paper documents placed in front of the Tinkerlamp, using visual markers (tags).

Computer

Runs applications, controlled by the objects and documents detected by the camera.

Projector

Draws directly on top of the objects and documents used to control the applications.

Example

A small-scale model (here a warehouse in our logistics training application) is placed next to a document (here a learning activity). Tags are sticked or printed on each element.

Information is projected on top of the small-scale model (warehouse floor and shelves accessibility) and on the document (different views of the warehouse layout and surface values).

Vocational training

Our learning solution for vocational training covers a large set of topics, such as: warehouse organization (alley width, types of forklifts), picking, work-time analysis, ABC analysis, load-bearing capacity, truck loading, law of levers and storage management.

Offer an engaging and efficient learning experience to your apprentices. The system is used successfully in several professional schools in Switzerland. Research has shown that learners working with our solution learn not only faster and better but also find better solutions and explore more alternatives than with traditional paper and pencil exercises.

Consulting

Are you planning to build a new warehouse, or want to improve an existing storage facility? Our augmented warehouse small-scale model lets you explore different alternatives, evaluate and compare them before taking a decision. We provide this service in collaboration with a network of partners, experts in warehouse management and organization.

Process

The process is usually divided into four main phases:

1. Needs analysis

The objective of this first phase is to define your goals. Are you building a new warehouse and thus need answers to many questions? Or do you want to improve a specific aspect of an existing facility? We also collect information about your specific situation, which is useful for the next phase.

2. Modeling

Based on the information gathered during the first phase, we model your storage facility in our simulation software and build relevant small-scale model elements.

3. Workshops

The actual optimization work is done through collaborative workshops. These workshops involve relevant people from your organization, accompanied by an expert from our partners and a software engineer from Simpliquity for the technical support.

4. Debriefing

We deliver a document containing all the data generated during the workshops, which will help you take the right decisions.
