Simpliquity is a swiss company developing software for collaborative work and learning. It was founded in 2010 by three researchers from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne: Guillaume Zufferey (PhD), Patrick Jermann (PhD) and Prof. Pierre Dillenbourg.
We create tangible applications: a mix of traditional tools (small-scale models, paper) and technology (augmented reality, simulations), made for groups working and learning activities. You get the best of both worlds: the simplicity and concreteness of physical objects with the flexibility and richness of software.
Our mission: create intuitive tools that help learners understand, enhance creativity and help you take the right decisions.
Learn
Improve learning in schools, training centers, during continuing education workshops, ...
Communicate
With customers or colleagues: customer relationships, brainstorming sessions, ...
Decide
Find better solutions to complex problems: planning, process optimization, ...
Simple
No user manual needed: start working immediately and focus on your task.
Concrete
Learn, communicate and solve problems more efficiently with domain-specific interfaces.
Collaborative
Share, discuss and decide together, thanks to naturally collaborative applications.
- Description
- Example
Camera
Detects tangible objects and paper documents placed in front of the Tinkerlamp, using visual markers (tags).
Computer
Runs applications, controlled by the objects and documents detected by the camera.
Projector
Draws directly on top of the objects and documents used to control the applications.

- Package contents
- Advantages
Our learning solution for vocational training covers a large set of topics, such as: warehouse organization (alley width, types of forklifts), picking, work-time analysis, ABC analysis, load-bearing capacity, truck loading, law of levers and storage management.
Offer an engaging and efficient learning experience to your apprentices. The system is used successfully in several professional schools in Switzerland. Research has shown that learners working with our solution learn not only faster and better but also find better solutions and explore more alternatives than with traditional paper and pencil exercises.
- TinkerLamps (1 for each group of 3 to 5 learners)
- 15+ pedagogical activities
- For each activity, a companion sheet for the teacher
- Warehouse small-scale model (scale 1:50), including shelves, delivery and expedition docks, office, cafeteria and annex rooms
- Pallets small-scale model (scale 1:27)
Simple
A few minutes are enough to start working with the system. A lot of time saved for what matters the most: learning.
Concrete
Working with a small-scale model brings theory closer to practice, facilitating understanding.
Collaborative
Learners solve problems together, discuss solutions and share ideas, creating a rich and engaging learning experience.
